CKC - Are you aware of anyone that has a working bloodhound (or some other such breed?) I'm looking to hire someone and their dog to unearth lost items. Very Truly Yours, Andrea Foley

Response to Leonard: Line-breeding is a debated issue between breeders, and possibly every person you talk to will have a differing opinion. The *short* answer is this: if all dogs in the pedigree have been tested and certified free of health problems that are prevelant in the shih tzu, then you are probably safe to purchase a pup. Ask for proof of health testing for at least 3 generations back - do your research on the breed so you'll know what genetic diseases should be screened out. Try going to the Shih Tzu's parent club web site for info regarding health testing. If you have more questions, please feel free to contact me at homeboarding@netzero.net. I'm happy to help.

I'm considering the purchase of a shih tzu, and I have a question about inner-breeding. The pup's mother and father are half brother and sister. The breeder informed me that they're hasn''t been any other cross breeding in the pup's blood line. Should I be concerned that the dog could develop medical problems from the brother-half sister relationship?

Thanks in advance for your help.
