Conformation
Conformation is what most people think of when they hear the words "dog show." Conformation is an event where each dog is judged against its Breed Standard. Each breed has it's own breed standard. Each dog competes in the conformation ring against other dogs of its breed and is divided by sex of the dog. The judge will award points to the best male and best female in the competition for that day. It takes 15 points (including two major pointed shows), awarded under at least three different judges in order for a dog to have "Champion" before it's name. When you hear or see the abbreviaton CH it means the dog has earned its 15 points and has been judged conformationally correct to the breed standard and should be considered as suitable for breeding.
